The 8 vertical panels were created by laminating 2x4's between two sheets of birch. The 2x's help keep the panels flat while providing adequate blocking to support the clothes rod and the adjustable shelving pins.

I had a few extra clothes rods laying around that I cut to length and inserted into a simple receiver piece I made from scraps.

I had to create 18 surfaces for the sides/tops/bottoms of the closet system. I went with birch plywood.

After measuring and cutting the pieces I sanded each surface down to 220 grit sandpaper. Before applying the stain I put on a coat of pre-stain to control how quickly the stain absorbs into the wood. Then I put 3 coats of urethane on with a light sand in between.
